Gulnoza Akhmedova is a 24-year-old fibre artist, operating under the moniker ‘Panoplee’. She is drawn to the history of fibre art as an intergenerational, gendered cultural practice and as a tool for storytelling and connection.
Gulnoza has been an avid crafter since the age of 12 and enjoys the soothing and therapeutic nature of the repetitive motions associated with crochet, knitting and embroidery. She has recently exhibited at Side Gallery as part of the Brisbane Art and Design Festival.
"This piece is based on my own experiences of mental exhaustion and burnout, and the way it can often manifest as spending too much time in bed.
Using a combination of embroidery and free-form crochet, a bed is depicted here as an overgrowth of moss, drawing on how we can find ourselves slowly slipping into a pit of stagnation, wallowing and overthinking, and how this can take over aspects of our everyday life."
