"I painted this portrait to convey the dark and tumultuous emotions that can plague your mind. By juxtaposing subject and colour, I wanted to portray the polar opposites - a continuum that we all move side to side along. The way the pendulum swings, however, is unique to the individual.

I use bright and bold hues to contrast the sad, somber expressions of the subject. Looking at this painting, you may experience a sense of sorrow upfront, yet it is the colour that stays with you."

Alex Wisman is a visual artist who exhibits his work commercially and in the streets. He started out as a graffiti writer who has now expanded into abstract painting and illustrations.

Alex’s current body of work captures the expressions and moods of bipolar disorder. He juxtaposes bright, vibrant colours with dark backgrounds.

His faces capture the tormented and torturous feelings of the lows experienced living with bipolar. Although the faces are mostly sad, he uses a bright uplifting palette to contrast highs and lows. The rudimentary strokes are done using his finger and spray paint.

Alex is currently living in Brisbane, working with big corporations as a live illustrator, while keeping his feet within the art world.
