John Blackley started painting classes at the Brisbane Institute of Art in 2007. John mostly works in acrylics and water-mixable oils and likes to explore various topics including natural and urban landscapes, as well as fauna.
Most of John's reference material is local and/or familiar. John's architectural background also tends to be an influence and John aims to achieve an impressionistic character involving a loose quality of painting.
John has been awarded prizes at the Bluewater Festival, Sandgate Easter Art Show, Brookfield Art Show and Expressions Art Show. John has exhibited at Percolator Gallery three times, as well as Mr Henderson’s, Bramble Place, The Coffee Club and Hawks Football Club.
John's recent works have been inspired by the environments of the Upper Noosa River and Mount Barney.
"Inspired by Jacaranda blossoms floating on Yabba Creek near Imbil, this work captures the colours and illustrated in a loose expressionistic manner."
