Justin is an award-winning mental health and suicide prevention advocate, treated for manic depression for most of his earlier life and later diagnosed with bipolar type two, he has used many art forms as a way of negotiating the challenges of his mental illness such as singing, performing, writing, poetry and more recently art on canvas over the past four decades.
In 2023, he won awards for his mental health-based poetry and published his first book of poetry. Using both his mother and daughter's talents as visual artists and as inspiration to further tap into this creative genre.
As part of mental health training I facilitate in the construction industry, I asked 316 construction workers to write on ping pong balls what matter most to them, 73% said family, 17% said mental health and well-being, 10% said friends and family, pets, work life balance, nature and happiness. This piece breaks down stigmas of an industry well regarded as toxic and shows common human connections matter louder than industry banter. So, WHAT MATTERS MOST to you?
