Waiting On You…

Lani is a Brisbane-based artist and registered art therapist who follows curiosity wherever it wanders. Her work lives in the space between daydream and detail - where playful marks, repeating archetypal characters, and quiet whimsical humour coexist. Guided more by intuition than instruction, Lani treats the creative process like a conversation: sometimes thoughtful, sometimes mischievous, always sincere and honest. Working with coloured pencils and biro, Lani explores ideas around faith, identity, meaning-making, mental health, morality, and observations of daily life. She invites viewers to slow down, look twice, and find their own small moments of wonder tucked between the mundane.

Infertility is a hard journey. This was drawn during the process of IVF, and includes themes of anatomy (represented with metaphors), hope, waiting, and uncertainty. It's a gruelling process and I think more open conversation about the difficulty of this journey would only benefit people who are going through it. The character is waiting for the bird to deliver the news she wants to read...
