Unfiltered
Shane Stephens is a Toowoomba-based emerging artist, currently undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Arts at UniSQ. Working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, and mixed media, Shane's practice explores themes of memory, belonging, resilience, and healing through personal and universal narratives.
Living with the impacts of complex trauma, mental illness, and visual and auditory hallucinations, Shane embraces her art practice as a means of reflection, connection, and storytelling. Drawing upon personal experience and observations of the natural world, Shane creates works that seek moments of refuge, hope, and transformation.
Shane has previously exhibited with Recovered Futures, Incognito Art Show, Pop'd Art Toowoomba, and internationally through ExpoMetro Barcelona. She continues to develop a multidisciplinary practice that celebrates creativity, recovery, and the experience of being human.

'Unfiltered' is a deconstructed ceramic face comprised of five individual forms. Inspired by the idea that perception is rarely fixed, the work celebrates the many ways people experience and interpret the world around them. Through playful colour, exaggerated features, and fragmented construction, the sculpture invites viewers to consider perspectives beyond the ordinary. Rather than viewing difference as something to fear, this work embraces curiosity, humour, and the unique ways each mind makes sense of reality.
