Gillian Richards, a visual poet, explores society's responses to social and environmental issues through poetry, printmaking, sculptural poetry and artist books.
Her work questions, examines and probes, sometimes creating uncomfortable and challenging relationships with the audience. She intersperses these heavy subjects with playful pieces and delightful moments of anarchy.
Battling mental and physical illness from 2015 to 2018, she began exhibiting in Brisbane in 2021 with Table 21, Recovered Futures exhibitions (2022, 2023) and the 2023 Walk Gently exhibition at Logan Art Gallery with Rachael Lee.
Her artwork, 'Always Interwoven', was featured on the cover of Writers Queensland's quarterly magazine (Mar-May 2024). Originally from Melbourne, she now creates on Bullongen country, Australia’s Gold Coast, in her purpose-built studio.
