Tonnau (waves)
Amy Parker is a Brisbane-based artist of Welsh origin, who has experienced immense growth over her years exhibiting with Recovered Futures. She feels that her journey through recovery has coincided with her artwork going from strength.
Amy is a big believer that we are all doing the best we can with what we have. She says a diagnosis doesn't need to define someone, understanding first-hand the power of facing challenges with strength, safe in the knowledge that the storm will pass.
Now working as a perinatal mental health peer worker, Amy feels that she is following her authentic path. By offering support and compassion to others, Amy is finding her feet and discovering her place in the world.
I see parallels between mental health and the ocean. It comes in waves. The water is crashing violently around us, and we feel we may drown - but it passes. We find moments of strength to come up for air when the water isn’t so high. We kick away and eventually we make it through. On the other side lies the unexpected peace and tranquility of calm waters, where we can float comfortably and finally exhale a sigh of relief.
