The Places We Return To

Leisa is an abstract landscape artist whose pieces blend both realism and abstract interpretation. Her work seeks to convey a landscape which exists beyond time, place, and memory. Through subtle use of light and shade, Leisa hopes the viewer is taken to a place in distant memory; a place of transcendent evocation that resonates with their experience; a place both known and unknown. Her work is intuitive , one which is both an amalgamation of stored memories of the natural world and a glimpse into a place beyond landscape. Throughout her life, Leisa witnessed her mother's struggles with significant mental illness and the courage required to walk this often unseen journey.

There are places we return to where we can find respite from the chaos of the world; where we can find peace that surpasses understanding. For me, the natural world beckons when life is too much, and returning -  if only in my mind - provides balm to a frazzled mind and spirit. Capturing time spent in New Zealand, this piece reminds me of long hikes across mountain passes; places I feel free, hopeful, and strong.
