John is a Brisbane/Meanjin based photographic artist who lives with depression and social anxiety. In his early fifties he found that he had complex trauma and has recently discovered he is neurodivergent.
Due to his neurodivergence, he approaches photography in his own way after discovering what is now known by some as photographic expressionism.
Through this expressionism, he has a found a joy which was previously undiscovered. It has allowed him to play and be truly creative which he found difficult within the restraints of more traditional methods.

This lighthouse is one of the lighthouses along the shipwreck coast, Victoria. This photograph sat on my computer for years before I understood what I needed to do to express what I felt about this artwork.
This artwork is about safety – by projecting the light into the dangerous looking clouds it sends a message it will keep us safe. The circle is also symbolic of safety as everything within the circle is protected.
