The Eyes Have It

Loni is a visual artist and registered nurse, in that order. She has been making art since the first grade and has been an operating theatre sister since 1990. She completed a Fine Arts degree at Queensland College of Art in 1997.

Primarily a figurative artist with extensive life drawing experience, Loni now mainly paints in oil. Painting nourishes Loni's soul and acts as a panacea against some of the harsh realities witnessed in her day job. While artmaking allows her to work through complex feelings, other days it's just about making something beautiful, funny, or occasionally challenging.

I’m fascinated by the ability of pigments and media to be turned into recognisable emotions. The sighted among us grow up reading faces, with the eyes most able to tell us stories without speech.
