Swirling Koi
Born in New Zealand, Helen has been creating art for as long as she can remember. Working across a variety of mediums and techniques, she embraces experimentation and enjoys discovering new ways to bring ideas to life.
Living with anxiety and clinical depression, art provides a meditative space for Helen to focus, reflect, and embrace creative escape. The process of making is as important as the finished work, offering moments of calm, curiosity, and joy.
Helen's work is often characterised by colourful, character-filled imagery infused with humour and playfulness. Through vibrant compositions and imaginative storytelling, Helen aims to create engaging works that spark connection, delight, and a sense of wonder.

This painting began with a fluid acrylic pour, embracing the spontaneity of flowing colour, texture, and movement. The layered greens and blues suggested water, inspiring the addition of koi, which I painted in acrylic to bring focus and life to the composition. By combining the unpredictability of poured paint with deliberate brushwork, I explore the balance between surrender and control. The circling koi represent harmony, resilience, and finding calm within constant movement - a theme that resonates strongly throughout my creative practice.
