Juhani was born in Finland and emigrated to Australia aged nine (9) on a three-week long ship journey. When he was young, Juhani used to paint but art dropped away when he had a young family.
Juhani picked up the brushes again later in life after retirement, when he found more free time on his hands. He has fallen in love with painting again and paints many different styles.
Juhani's family has been impacted by mental health with the suicide of his oldest son ten years ago. His son suffered from anxiety his whole life and is an inspiration for him to continue painting.
The ship is wrecked but appears so full of vivid colour and life and the surrounds bring comfort to a situation that maybe isn't so dire.
