Shibuya Bicycle
Despite her tumultuous health journey, Brisbane artist Liz Pepper continues to pave her way forward, paintbrush in hand, sharing her work through her platform, Colour of October.
For over a decade, art has played a pivotal role in Liz’s healing. Just as she has been transformed by her life experiences, so too has her art. Once focused on replicating unadulterated reality, Liz's work now centres on recreating a feeling and telling a story through expressive use of colour and mark-making.
Working across a variety of media to suit her needs as an artist living with disability, Liz aims to acknowledge the seemingly mundane or unnoticed moments of joy that help get us through the day.

Based off a photo I took in 2025 while visiting Japan, this drawing gives a quieter perspective on the iconic Shibuya Scramble Square. Rather than showcasing the chaos of the crossing in its entirety, the focus is on a somewhat unremarkable bicycle locked to a signpost. The noise of the crossing fades behind it; a reminder beauty can be found in small and unexpected moments - we just have to be prepared to notice them.
