Alana believes in the transformative nature of art so much so that alongside her own visual art practice, she became an art therapist to support others in the process of transforming their experiences via art making.
Alana's personal art practice focusses on whimsy, absurdity, playfulness, surrealism, observations and sometimes carries an undertone of moral warning akin to fairytales or parables. Alana uses her art to express emotion, work through anxiety, as a form of prayer, or to just experience delight.

Inspired by a visit to Fairytales at GOMA and watching Disney's Pinocchio I drew this image. It contains some of the classic features of fairytale: a protagonist (red), a character representing conscience (the yellow bird), a warning of danger (that beast is pretending to be a tree), a guide (stick figure laying out another path to take in the background).
