Kevin is a Brisbane/Meanjin based artist whose creative journey is deeply influenced by his strong connection to the Ned Kelly story, which serves as a profound inspiration for his work and his life.
Using bold, simplified forms, vibrant colours, and recognisable motifs to capture Ned Kelly’s struggle, defiance, larger-than-life presence, and, to Kevin, his heroism. Kevin openly acknowledges the significance of art in maintaining his sanity, attributing its vital role to his very existence - attributing his art practice as a respite when he wakes with nightmares and flashbacks.
Art occupies Kevin's hands and mind, fostering a sense of purpose, well-being, and a means of survival.
Struggling with insomnia in the middle of the night, I create vibrant and colourful artworks of Ned Kelly who I feel a strong affinity for. In this painting Ned is standing in front of a fence. I made the fence like a guitar fret because music also brings me joy.
