Metamorphosis

From her Brisbane garage studio, multicultural artist Thicia Luiza channels an intuitive, sketch-free process to create everything from delicate small-scale pieces to vibrant murals. She allows raw, chaotic 'episodes' to naturally surface, revealing dreamlike landscapes populated by otherworldly creatures. For Thicia, art serves as a safe shelter and a tool for self-discovery. Rather than depicting a fixed subject, her work holds infinite potential, truly coming alive when viewers project their own emotions and stories into it. Her artistic career has evolved into an ongoing journey of experimentation. Thicia has been named a finalist at both the Rotary Art Show and the Revival Emerging Art Prize, sharing her narrative paintings with local venues in Brisbane, social media, and her online store.

This piece was a completely different painting when we started our journey together. Our time creating was short but impactful. A few major events had crossed our path while I was making this work and sometimes it felt like I was in this little boat trying to survive in a big storm. ‘Metamorphosis’ was born when I started to see the sun shining on the other side and decided to surround myself with sunflowers.
