Molly Stephenson is an emerging artist who captures simple moments of everyday life in oil paintings. A sea-change from her 20-year career in cosmetics design and makeup artistry, Molly now translates her love of natural beauty and deep appreciation for colour and texture through her works in oil.
In 2023, Molly experienced a life-threatening birth complication after her son was born and had to undergo emergency surgery just six (6) days post-partum.
Initially attributed to anxiety with her pain not taken seriously, Molly still feels the effects on her mental health. She has leaned into the flow state that painting provides, giving her headspace and clarity to heal from traumatic events.

The history of the still life genre fascinates me; a marker of trade routes, exotic fruits as a status symbol, a social currency. With modern access to produce all year round, I delight in the rarity and ritual of choosing seasonal fruit.
These oranges came from the New Farm Markets then were painted ‘en plein air’ (in the open air) at the nearby New Farm bandstand.
