Knowledge Truth and Faith

Jonathon's art is often dark and brooding, and shouldn't be considered solely based on its resemblance to landscape. The colour field elements are rarely uniform and he prefers to create smaller works on paper with acrylic.

There are repeating motifs of seascape, horizon, sky, and decaying surfaces within his work - a direct link to his Navy service where he developed PTSD and associated mental health conditions, which he's lived with for more than 30 years.  

The purpose of Jonathon's art is to imply minimalist colour fields that embody a sense of calm and serenity, with hinted elements of landscape or alien vistas suggesting incompleteness, allowing the viewer to transform the work with their own thoughts.

A monochrome colour field abstraction almost representing an imagined alien landscape. I completed this work using various application techniques, including scraping paint onto the surface with a trowel in several layers,and feathering each layer with a brush. I focus on dreamy, imagined landscapes and colour field combinations to elicit emotional responses, memories, and feelings from the viewer.
