Inexorable
Léonie is a Brisbane-based artist working mainly in watercolours, because she loves their luminescence and unpredictability. She has begun expanding her practice to incorporate acrylics and drawing media such as charcoal, graphite, and pastels. Leonie’s artistic journal provides essential therapy for her when times are hard. Creativity is an important tool in her continuing mental health journey, encouraging her to live in and enjoy the moment.

This work was inspired by a visit to Taranaki Falls in New Zealand. The inexorable power of the water reminded me of a period of severe depression, where on the surface I appeared to be keeping my head above water, before suddenly plunging over a waterfall. The loss of control and interest in everything I had previously valued was horrific - but I survived to enjoy the beauty of the world once again.
