In the Pink

Alle Fiba is an emerging artist based in Brisbane (Meanjin). By day she is a teacher; by night she experiments with a variety of digital and traditional art styles. Alle is finding a balance between the competing demands of being a mother, spouse, and friend while also pursuing her artistic passions.

Alle battles with depression and anxiety, as well as other potential diagnoses that are currently swept under her living room rug. She grew up caring for her mother who has bipolar disorder, shaped by all the complexities that go along with it. These experiences make her a much more interesting person; albeit a quirky and overthinking one.

'In the Pink' is a vivid, maximalist portrait that makes no apologies for its presence. It was inspired by punk culture and a love of vibrant colours. Ultimately the freedom and vulnerability it depicts represents the version of myself that is masked in my everyday life. The textured canvas assisted in adding depth but also forced me into a creative space where I was less of a perfectionist. For me, this artwork encourages boldness, and hopefully does the same for you too.
