I Didn't Do It
Living with bipolar affective disorder, and the social and economic consequences of that, Maureen takes solace in the world of art. Oil painting allows her to express complex, challenging ideas. The making of art is a 'pro-social' behaviour which Maureen takes great pride in.
In 1626, Domenichio created 'the Rebuke of Adam and Eve'. The work includes an homage to Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel. The subject depicted God censuring Adam, Adam blaming Eve, and Eve blaming the serpent. It is darkly funny, especially in light of modern gender politics. I have created my version using children's toys and art mannequins as models - making light of a serious subject; using whimsical play to point to the absurdity of biblical patriarchy.
