Tom is an acrylic paint and pencil artist living in Brisbane/Meanjin, inspired by his natural surroundings.

Tom's passion for art goes back to early childhood and in high school, Australian landscape painter William Robinson had a major influence on Tom's approach to art.

In adulthood, Tom kept art as an occasional hobby he would do now and then for pleasure over the course of 20 years. Since getting more involved in painting recently, discovering the healing power of art, he is excited to be making his first contribution as an adult to an exhibition as an artist with Recovered Futures.

Tom is motivated to do many more paintings in the future delving into the theme of nature and mental health as one artwork.

I created this artwork to honour my connection to nature and my backyard, where native Australian Eucalyptus trees stand tall. This artwork depicts the rainbow- symbolic of my sexual orientation as a gay man; while the tree itself is symbolic of my resilience through tough times as throughout my life I have a been a victim of bullying and trauma, which in turn is a lot like the harsh Australian weather conditions.

I feel much like the iconic Eucalyptus tree; I am a survivor.
