Artworks are first available to purchase in person at the exhibition held from 4-10 Oct at King George Square.

Laura Bean is a Brisbane/Meanjin based visual artist, who completed her Bachelor of Photography at Queensland College of Arts in 2021 and is undertaking further study in a Bachelor of Fine Arts at QUT exploring painting, drawing and poetry.
Her artistic practice explores themes around her lived experience with mental illness since being diagnosed with chronic depression in 2014.

Friend or Foe is an ink on paper artwork that explores personal experiences of depression depicted through the image of a woman with creatures in her hair.
The work delves into the complexities of mental health and the subtle, often hidden aspects of emotional struggle. The pink creatures nestled within the woman's hair symbolise the invasive thoughts and emotions that accompany depression. The creatures are both a part of her, while simultaneously foreign entities, blurring the lines between friend and foe.
