Duane is a proud Jiman artist from Taroom / Carnarvon country. His style blends traditional Indigenous symbolism with his present day experiences. Duane has painted in Brisbane for the last eight years. During this time, his colour choices and subject matter have been influenced by the artistic community around him. It's this community that supports his mental wellbeing, and his work is a way of giving back. Through his vivid and symbolic work, Duane enjoys sharing stories about the strength of community, as seen during experiences like the Brisbane floods.

This painting depicts Moonda Gurrah (brown snake). It is the story of the 2023 floods and the importance of flooding to maintain a river's health, and for the animals who depend on the water flow. This is the second in a series of three paintings created around this theme.
