Cerberus

Laura (Pixie Drink) is an artist from Zillmere who mostly creates ceramic sculptures inspired by fantasy and nature. They have lived with mental health challenges their whole life, with both inpatient and outpatient therapy experiences shaping their artistic practice and recovery journey. Creative expression, especially through the meditative medium of clay, is how they make meaning.

I often return to Cerberus as a motif in my pottery, as the mythology resonates with me in my journey with my mental health. Cerberus in Greek mythology is a three-headed dog who guards the gates of the underworld. My mental illness has made me feel like I have gone to hell and back several times, so I feel like I know Cerberus well, and now see them as an old friend.
