Cedar Creek

Renae is an emerging artist based in Brisbane /Magandjin. She began painting at the end of 2024, after a series of traumatic events upended her life and left her with PTSD. As Renae seeks to paint peace and joy, the scenes that emerge are often landscapes or abstract memories of landscapes from her bush walks and camping trips in Southeast Queensland, Northern NSW and beyond.  

Through her work, Renae seeks to express the atmosphere and energy of place and memory. She enjoys using colour in interesting ways, to highlight elements of the natural world. There is an underlying thread of calm, grounded energy in her recent works, as she paints the beauty and joy she discovers in nature.

Cedar Creek is one of those special places that provides a natural refuge from the built-up areas of Brisbane. I was inspired to create this artwork after enjoying a few visits rock-hopping up the creek, weaving around the series of rockpools. By painting nature scenes such as this, I hope to convey the message that uncertainty about what's around the corner can be beautiful.
