Balmy Army
Coming from a family of artists, Jennifer sees art as intrinsic to her identity and vocation. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Art, she began exhibiting her artwork in 2003, nurturing her creative practice to varying degrees due to her health. Jennifer's disability has impacted the shape, scale, and nature of materials used in her practice. This can, at times, make the creative process complicated for her.
A mixed media artist, Jennifer recognises the impact of her emotions and cognition on the clarity of her artistic voice. With an interest and appreciation for outsider art, she finds it curious that she now identifies as an artist creating outsider art in a community of outsider artists.
The artwork is inspired by my lovely, lanky nephew, James, during his experience as a young cricketer in England. During one of his matches, he entered a dark, gloomy oval with weather so terrible that it was hailing. With no light or sun around, James stood strong as a bright illuminating presence in white.
