Jesse Jones is an emerging artist and member of the Access Arts studio. He lives with bipolar disorder, autism, and chronic physical illnesses, with his work often examining themes surrounding health and the body. Jesse divides his time between home in Meanjin and various hospitals. He began painting as creative therapy during an inpatient psychiatric admission.

Jesse works primarily in acrylic and ink, and is influenced by post-impressionist and surrealist painters and pop artists. He has shown work in Australian and international group exhibitions, as well as his 2024 solo debut, Self & Survival.

This cute piece shows one of my favourite animals, an axolotl (or Mexican walking fish). Endangered in the wild, these adorable creatures thrive as pets and can regrow lost limbs, making them a symbol of resilience.
