Brisbane/Meanjin-based artist, Lauren, has in recent years focussed on painting animals we love and deem as pets. Lauren has seen how pets can keep people alive purely through being present without judgement and her favourite pet to paint are dogs.
Pets exist as a source to love and to be loved and can be the reason to live when we feel like no one else is there for us, even when others are there for support - we can't believe they see you as worthy.
The reciprocal connection between humans and pets is so strong it creates the tether required to keep going.
Lauren has recently forayed into literature - publishing a children's book titled, Smooch Kitten.

I have known many pet dogs, such as Mickey, Boston, Ameena, Freddie, Summer, Arlow, Cali, and Bella who have played a significant role for their owners and yet do they know their true value? Their importance to their human companions? I'm not sure but they deserve endless accolades. This is my first Ode to Dogs painting in the exhibition.
