A Wish About Expressing Anger

Katana Dirk (Kat) is a Brisbane-based artist and animator originally from the UK. Painting with acrylic and watercolor, she enjoys depicting mysterious and wild subjects often reflecting nature, death, and power. Kat finds making art to be a place for pause, focus, and breath. It's way to help qwell big feelings and still the vibrating anxiety which has been a mainstay in her life since the sudden death of her brother during her teen years.

Throughout her years of practice, Kat has found painting to be a safe way to be vulnerable. It is a way to hold her inner child and tell her she is safe, and together they can handle anything.

Inspired by Balinese demon masks, the demon looms in front while the girl, shut down, stands seemingly unaffected. It is a wish about expressing anger. She is stoic, but there is inner conflict roiling beneath; battles that are savage.

I used acrylics for the angry, bold strokes that attempt to convey feelings of chaos. Holding the brush tightly, grimly, I still hold on to hope.
