Survival Heart

Hayes is a Brisbane-based abstract artist who works mainly in mixed media, often blending abstract forms with representational elements. A self-taught artist, he has created work on and off for many years, but has become more focused and productive since committing to sobriety. 
 
Living with depression, anxiety, and mild psychosis, Hayes has faced significant challenges, including a long struggle with substance addiction. Now over five years sober, he has dedicated his life to art as a pathway to recovery and growth. Through painting, Hayes finds both healing and purpose, aiming to build a sustainable future while sharing his journey. Hayes hopes his work brings enjoyment to others and reflects the resilience found in creativity. 

The marks of an abstract painting on canvas can tell a story, much like the emotional imprints - both positive and negative - left on the mind and heart. The heart has an incredible capacity to endure, to grow stronger, and, through that resilience, to become more beautiful and deeply compelling.
