By Emma Darrouzet

Through studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries with Honours in Fine Painting, Emma laid the foundation for a lifetime of creating. After teaching and leading the art experience program at Sydney Children’s Hospital for many years, Emma immersed herself in health programs and exhibitions across both Sydney and Brisbane/Meanjin.

Her work explores the use of colour as therapy and catharsis, touching on relatable themes and delightful visuals. Emma's work is an exploration of the mind when people offer their unsolicited and ill-informed advice. The titles of the pieces are meant to satirise, while also evoking thought and introspection.

Emma's work aims to provide a voice for those who are too often ignored, dismissed, and disbelieved.

Advice falls like feathers - light, useless, easily brushed away. “Fresh air,” “a long walk,” “green tea.” This piece captures the absurdity of these offerings, turning empty phrases into art. What appears playful is also sharp: a mirror for those who dismiss, and a voice for those dismissed.
