Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"Both the father of my children and my son experienced very different mental health journeys, with me as their main support person. Most recently, I was often torn between my son's need for support and my own emotional wellbeing. It was a fine balancing act to ensure we both moved forward positively, full of hope and direction."
Carissa George started her art career in 2022 to channel her emotions arising from supporting her son’s mental health journey. After losing the father of her children to suicide in 2006, guiding her son through his experience brought back many different emotions.
Carissa uses abstract realism and mixed media techniques in her work. She combines symbolic poses, objects and animals to portray an empowering message of self-discovery.
Carissa is studying a 12-month mastery program and currently working on building her portfolio. Her work has recently been displayed at the Ipswich Art Awards.
