Through Tearful Eyes

After picking up a paintbrush in 2019 as a way of finding peace during a mental health crisis, Vicki discovered a world of colour and joy. Through art, she finds a tranquil place inside herself, using movement as meditation. The act of connecting to others through her work has been an unexpected, beautiful consequence of creating.

While continuing her nursing career and studying her masters, Vicki began to question if her gift to the world could be through art instead. In 2023, she began studying Visual Art at TAFE and exhibiting. Through her practice, Vicki embraces a path of continuous learning and experimentation, yet her true love remains abstract acrylics on large canvases, where she is free to shape the paint with large gestures and movement.

People often give flowers for emotional reasons, to acknowledge the passing of a loved one, or as congratulations for an achievement. I painted these flowers from the perspective of the receiver, looking at them through eyes full of tears. The colours smudge together, and detail is lost as the tears blur vision.
