Sunny Day in Byron
Born in Kenya, Léonie Seabrook is a Brisbane-based artist who has lived in Australia since 1993. Art has provided Léonie with essential mental and emotional therapy during times of severe depression, including during her husband's decline from early onset Parkinson’s disease, and his death in 2022.
Léonie paints many different subjects from the natural world and the built environment, including animals, birds, landscapes, and seascapes. She works mainly in watercolours because she loves their translucence, looseness, and unpredictability. Léonie describes watercolours as bringing her a joy and exhilaration that is unmatched in other artistic mediums.
Léonie has exhibited and won awards at several art shows across Australia over the past five years.

I created ‘Sunny Day in Byron’ to capture the sense of peace and wellbeing I feel when I'm near the ocean. I love the sight and sound of waves rolling onto the shore, helping me feel calm and grounded amid life's turmoil. The stillness of the rockpool contrasts beautifully with the movement of the waves. Bright blues and warm orange-browns reflect the translucent water and sunlit rocky outcrops, encapsulating the essence of a sunny day at the beach.
