Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"I am fortunate to live in an area that I love. I go for walks every day and enjoy painting pictures of my surroundings. When manic, these walks help me to channel this excess energy into something productive and creative. When depressed, this art practice helps to provide motivation to engage with the outside world. When well, it is something that brings a lot of joy to my life. This artwork reflects what I see on my walks."
Living with a serious mental illness, Kate McGowan has tried many different types of treatments over the years. Her painting represents a form of healing that she came to on her own, involving her love of art as well as the healing powers of nature and physical activity.
Through Kate's newfound art practice, she is no longer scanning her surroundings for threat and danger; she is browsing for beauty.
