Julie Gilroy is an abstract artist, based in Brisbane/Meanjin.
Julie’s compositions speak of a moment in time, combining all the elements it takes to arrive at that moment. The fragments represent people, places, actions and events that create the fingerprint of our lives. The layering and colours build the emotion of the arrival, with a fluidity of how easily it could shift and arrive at an alternative picture and place.
Julie predominantly works in the medium of archival colour pencil, honing her technique over the years to elevate the sharp lines and colour saturation. Working on wood board is central to her process. The natural grain and imperfections break through the pencil, offsetting the exacting nature of the medium.

'Pieces of Me' comes together like a jigsaw puzzle. Small sections are created and placed together, each representing my many different moods and perspectives. Contrasting colour palettes and angles must find harmony, just like we must balance our emotions every day. We are complex creatures, and it takes many pieces to create our unique picture.
