Our Cubby
Sue is a local artist who finds creating artwork both cathartic and uplifting. Her practice has been shaped by ongoing battles with mental health stemming from a traumatic early-life experience, and more recently by a diagnosis of early-onset Parkinson’s.
Sue enjoys painting her own imagined worlds using a variety of mediums, including acrylics, oils, collage, and mixed media. She is drawn to vibrant, contrasting colours that bring light, drama, and atmosphere to her work. Sue often blends different mediums to create expressive pieces that move between realism and abstraction.
For this mixed media artwork, I used contrasting light and dark tones to emphasise the morning light. To create a bright, joyful garden scene, I incorporated vibrant colours and careful tonal work. My intention was to depict the scene from a child's point of view, using perspective to capture their sense of wonder and simplicity.
