Roo is a Brisbane/Meanjin-based artist mainly working with ballpoint pen. Her challenging and traumatic upbringing led to Roo finding beauty in escaping into all things creative. Coming from a family not able to afford much, she often scavenged pens to teach herself how to draw.

Fast forward to Roo's adult years, and she faced countless and relentless adversities. In the wake of family sickness and subsequent deaths, Roo found solace in art once more. It is through art Roo often gains insight on peace, compassion, and empathy for all living beings.

In her work, elements of nature or animals often collide with facets of modern life, creating multi-dimensional meanings behind each piece.

This piece explores my near-death experience as a two-year-old, and how my memory of this experience has shaped almost every facet of my life. While many of us walk through life with scars, feeling like we don't belong and are alone at our very core, death is our humble guide. It teaches us to let go at every puzzling moment and find peace, as each piece of our life falls into place.
