By Donna Hawkins

Donna Hawkins is known for her imaginative and vibrant art. Working intuitively, with a love of detail, Donna embraces both representational and abstract genres through her artwork.

In 2003, Donna was diagnosed with major depression, resulting from complex trauma. Donna’s forced retirement from a fulfilling managerial career was difficult but necessary. Her art became a healing tool that was truly lifesaving.

Donna has won multiple awards for her art, but that’s not what brings her joy. She loves helping others express themselves creatively, as she knows first-hand how transformational it can be. Donna facilitates workshops as a foundational member of the Womenspace Art Collective (Sandgate) and continually pursues her own journey of self-expression and discovery.

This symbolic work endeavours to convey the idea that by living a heart-centred life - one connected to nature and grounded in the innocence of a newborn - we can be happier and healthier than if we allow the mind to dictate our feelings through fear and anxiety (represented by the spider). I use heart tracings and contrasting landscapes to further illustrate this message. We enter the world free of conditioning and negative beliefs - how good would it be to remain that way?
