Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"This artwork is part of a series that was birthed out of a painful season where I lost my vibrant older brother at age 57. He left behind a wife and two children.
When I began to process this defining event, I wanted to express fragility, letting go and other emotions surrounding this season.
At this time, I found many butterflies in surprising and unexpected locations. Butterflies symbolise new beginnings, but they are also very fragile. If their wings are touched, they can be permanently damaged. This artwork expresses that even those who seem strong among us can be fragile."
Rebecca Jones describes mental health as a journey - for a season, you can be walking along a bright road, then something hits you and you are left wondering what it all means. Other times, you feel like you are on a crazy rickety train ride that you can't get off.
Rebecca is grateful for her faith, which she says has always helped anchor her. At times she believes all people, even people of faith, need to be real and admit that they struggle with a roller coaster of emotions - it's all part of the human experience.
