"On this day, emotions run deep,
Stood proud, her soul set free to leap.
Bold, unapologetic, colours intertwine,
Reflecting her spirit, strong and divine.
In this moment, her essence is revealed,
A symbol of passion, forever etched and sealed.
A sudden moment of doubt takes hold,
The rush of uncertainty is an unbearing load.
Soft rays meet her eyes, she trembles not realising why.
Recounting her steps of how far she’s come,
With each breath she yearns for the sun."
Gina Ward is a self-taught acrylic artist. Born and raised in a small Queensland country town, she has since established herself in Brisbane.
When she isn’t in her studio, she can be found in an operating room in a trauma hospital. As a theatre nurse, Gina explores the vulnerability, resilience and complexity of the human experience and translates that to her canvas through her own lived experiences with anxiety.
Gina's art explores the interconnectedness and multi-dimensionality of our rapidly changing world by deconstructing familiar forms into fundamental geometric elements.
Blurring boundaries and challenging traditional notions of depth, her compositions question perception. Inspired by architecture, mid-century modern design and personal experiences, she draws on these elements to create emotive pieces.
