"Biological illustrations of animals are not a new concept. The practice has been around since the 17th century, when it was used as a technical means to communicate a species’ details.

The word ‘koala’ derives from the Dharug word ‘gula’ meaning ‘no water’, in reference to koalas rarely being seen drinking water.

This koala, who has travelled the world, was named Kevin by my partner. I enjoyed learning about this iconic Australian animal and its Indigenous origins."

Chris Corish has been practicing art since 2013 and in recent years has expanded his practice. Having studied Fine Arts at Aberystwyth University in Wales and Museum Studies at the University of Leeds in England, Chris has varied experience across the cultural and heritage sector.

His painting and digital work explores the relationship of colours and shapes, drawing on influences from modern and postmodern visual art. Currently based in Queensland, he is beginning to break out into Australian art scene.
