Ivana Djuric is an artist from Brisbane/Meanjin who works with oils in thick, Impasto style.
She has been painting ever since she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age of 16, to manage episodes of depression and anxiety - by releasing all her negative energy onto the canvas.
She enjoys painting floral compositions, often from the abstract close-up viewpoints, and exploring different types of textures and colours of the botanical world.
The artist is currently exploring the connection between water and land and is keen on exploring other painting genres through seascape works.
Ivana is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Art History at the University at Queensland.

I created this work in a time of self-doubt and fear, finding solace in nature's symbology. The proteas came out of me, fighting to overpower my depression. It's thick foliage and pink flowers painted in expressive, impasto style is boldly standing out on the dark background. The power of nature and its healing abilities is something I am often reminded of and amazed by and gives me courage to follow my artistic passion. The protea symbolises transformation, diversity and courage.
