Leisa O'Gorman is a self-taught artist who began painting after a visit to Tasmania, inspired both by the local art scene and the wilderness surrounding her. Using acrylics, she creates works that blend realism and abstraction, aiming to evoke memories of timeless landscapes; places both known and unknown. Through light and shade, Leisa’s paintings invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences of being in nature.

Leisa grew up as a childhood carer of her mother, who experienced frequent acute episodes of psychotic depression. Since her mother’s passing, she has grown to appreciate her mother's tremendous strength and resilience, and the complexity of what it means to live with mental health issues.

This piece was created after time spent in the mountains in New Zealand. There are rare times in life where we arrive at a place and feel a deep stirring; a sense of being at home in the unknown. In a world of chaos and confusion, the mountains offer quiet; a place where we find our true self and our spirit returns to stillness. These are the places that never quite leave us, evoking memories that last a lifetime.
