Francie Evans is an emerging contemporary figurative and still life artist based in Brisbane. Her works are typically grounded in realism and showcase a soft luminance and painterly brushstrokes reminiscent of the Impressionists, Pre-Raphaelites, and Romantics.

Francie began oil painting in 2021. Working as a medical scientist, and a mother to two young sons, she finds painting to be an opportunity to practice both mindfulness and escapism.

Over time, a series of works emerged known as the ‘Sad Girl’ series. Reflected in the faces of the women she was painting, Francie began to process and understand the anxiety and depression she was experiencing.

Through her art, Francie seeks to capture a feeling of freedom and inspire others to find their own paths towards self-discovery and growth.

Through my painting practice I explore how the mind shapes reality. Even amid difficulty, I’ve discovered that noticing small fragments of light - gratitude, connection, resilience - can shift despair into something more hopeful, even when circumstances have not changed at all. This piece invites viewers to consider how light illuminates the darkness, and in doing so, how hope and peace might be found.
