Carissa started her art career in July 2022 as a self-taught artist after recognising a need to channel her emotions from supporting her son through his mental health journey.
She lost the father of her children to suicide in 2006 after a decade-long abusive relationship, having to guide her son through his mental health journey after a toxic break up brought back many different emotions. The canvas ended up being the chosen tool to work through these.
Carissa uses abstract realism and mixed media techniques in her work, she combines symbolic poses, objects, and animals to portray an empowering message of self-discovery. Her work has been shown in many galleries and art shows in 2024.
