"I created this work as an ode to autumn. I tried to recreate the bright and rich colours of the autumn leaves in the poppy flowers. I loved applying thick layers of red and yellow hues to make them as alive and textured as possible. Poppies have always been one of my favorite flowers as they symbolise remembrance and hope."
Ivana Djuric is a Brisbane artist who works with oils in thick Impasto style. She has been painting since the age of 16 when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Painting helps Ivana manage episodes of depression and anxiety by releasing all her negative energy onto the canvas.
Ivana enjoys painting floral compositions, often from abstract close-up viewpoints, experimenting with different types of textures and colours within the botanical world. She is keen to explore other painting genres such as seascapes and is studying the connection between water and land in her next project.
Ivana is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Art History at the University of Queensland.
