Angel Eyes

Originally from Burma, Htoo Htoo came to Australia as a refugee. In his home country, he was a student leader and political activist fighting for democracy, which led to his arrest and three years of imprisonment. It was during this time, in Rangoon Prison, that he first began painting. Embracing a distinctive dot style reminiscent of Burmese Indigenous traditions, Htoo Htoo developed a deeply personal and unique approach to art. His works are closely connected to his lived experiences, exploring themes of politics, social justice, and personal resilience.

Through my artwork, I am sharing the 1000-year-old Buddhist culture and art found in the pagodas and temples of Burma. This work reflects the deep spiritual heritage and timeless beauty rooted in these sacred sites.
